Occupational First Aid
Introduction
As part of meeting the requirements for first aid provisions under current legislation, employers may decide that they need one or more employees who are qualified in occupational first aid. All of our trainers are registered with the Occupational First Aid Instructors as required by the Health and Safety Authority
Course Aim
The aim of the course is to give the participant the skills and knowledge required to be proficient in administering first aid in the case of accidents and emergencies in the workplace
Objectives
On completion of this course, participants will:
- Understand the responsibilities of the Occupational First Aider
- Be able to provide treatment for the purpose of preserving life or minimising the consequences of injury until the arrival of medical assistance.
- Be able to provide treatment in the workplace for an injury which does not require the attention of a medical practitioner or nurse.
- Be capable of coordinating first aid arrangements in the workplace.
- Be familiar with health and safety legislation on first aid provision in the workplace.

Who should attend?
This course is suitable for persons with responsibility for first aid in their workplace and for those who wish to obtain a qualification in occupational first aid. This programme will involve participants in practical exercises including stimulation of cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Participants who wish to attend the course should seek the advice of their doctor if they suffer from a medical condition, which may be exacerbated by physical exertion.
Methodology
The course will be presented in a modular format and will include problem based learning and group activities.
Assessment
Participants are required complete both written and practical assessments on completion of the course. The assessments will be conducted by an external independent assessor Assessment consists of: Short Answer Question Paper – 45 mins and Skills Assessment – 30 mins
Certification
Participants will receive certification of attendance on completion of the course
