Safety Representatives Training Course

Course Aim

The Safety Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 facilitates the selection of Safety Representatives to represent workers in the consultation process with employers. This three-day course will familiarise participants with the role of the Safety Representatives. This course aims to to provide the basis knowledge and skills necessary for the Safety Representative to discharge their role in the workplace

 

Objectives

On completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the role of the Safety Representatives.
  • Be aware of Responsibilities under the Safety Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005, the Safety Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007 and other applicable legislation.
  • Be familiar with the contents of a Safety Statement.
  • Understand hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control.
  • Accident investigation and reporting
  • Know the importance of consultation and communication.

 

Course Programme

The course programme is split into core and optional modules. The are three optional modules covered on the course. The optional modules may be changed to suit the needs of the participants

 

Core modules

  • Safety culture
  • Role of safety representatives/safety officer and Safety Team.
  • Employee Consultation.
  • Health and Safety Legislation including Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005
  • Safety Statement contents
  • Hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control
  • Accident and Incident Investigation, Reporting and Prevention.
  • Health and Safety Management Systems

  • Manual Handling
  • Chemical Awareness
  • Fire Safety
  • Working at Height
  • Confined space entry

 

Who should attend?

This course is intended for personnel who will carry out the role of safety representative and for members of safety committees in the workplace.

 

Methodology

The course will be presented in a modular format and will include case studies, problem based learning and group activities.

 

Assessment

Participants are required to complete a written assessment on completion of the course

Certification

Participants will receive certification of attendance on completion of the course
